We are what we eat

Recent out break of E.coli in Europe, due to bacterial contamination in vegetables caused death of 18 people. Immediately people started convincing others and there were lots of news in electronic and mass media, spreading rumours that vegetables are not at all suitable for human consumption. This is the height of demoniac mentality. Birth and death of any living entity is as per Krishna’s plan and all the reasons we see for its cause like disease, accident, murder etc, are mere external reasons. Human beings have been eating vegetables for millions of ages and have been leading a very healthy life. Infact vegetarians have longer and healthier life span compared to that of people who eat meat. Meat is nothing but dead matter and we all know how bodies decay as soon as soul leaves it. So what is the fun in eating such obnoxious, decayed dead matter? Infact there ... Read More »

PEOPLE new to Indian cooking are often delighted to find that success depends more on creative ingenuity than on specialized equipment. If your kitchen is well-equipped with common utensils -frying pans, saucepans, knives, a slotted spoon, mixing bowls, a grater, a metal strainer, a colander, cutting boards, cheese cloth, a set of measuring spoons, and maybe a scale-you have all you need to cook genuine Indian meals. You can also use modern appliances such as pressure cookers and food processors in Indian cooking. A pressure cooker is useful for speeding up the dal soups and chick-pea preparations; a food processor, for mincing ginger and herbs, and for kneading bread dough and paneer. (It kneads the paneer in just a few seconds. Don’t let it run longer, or the paneer will fall apart). Microwave ovens are suspected by some scientists to diminish the nutrive value of food so therefore we don’t ... Read More »

Time – Use it or Lose it

The following is a transcription of a part of an astounding lecture given by our spiritual master H H Mahavishnu Goswami Maharaja in South Africa. “There is no need of running away from the responsibilities but there is a need of waking up. Don’t run away but wake up in your own situations. And know that all situations, however good or bad, are temporary by nature. Sooner or later the situations are going to change because the medium of the situation which is our body, is ever changing. Bhagavad gita 2.13 dehino ‘smin yathaa dehe kaumaaram yauvanam jaraa tathaa dehaantara-praaptir dhiras tatra na muhyati Dehino, this soul, dehino ’smin yathaa dehe, kaumaaram yauvanam jara it has accepted this body. In this body it was a child before. We were two years old, we were four years old, we were ten years old. All those bodies are gone. Now you may be ... Read More »

Being Devoid Of Krishna Is Danger

Being Devoid Of Krishna Is Danger (Compiled from notes on lectures of H. H. Mahavishnu Goswami) In the fifteenth chapter of the first canto of Srimad Bhagavatam, we find that Arjuna comes back from Dwaraka after hearing the news of the departure of Lord Krishna to His eternal abode and seeing the unprecedented dejection of Arjuna, Maharaja Yudhistira asks him about the reason for his grief. At that time, Arjuna with strong feeling of separation from Krishna, speaks a number of verses remembering and feeling obliged to the Lord for all the benefactions. In Srimad Bhagavatam 1.15.21 he speaks about the reason for him being defeated by infidel cowherd men when he was guarding the bodies of all the wives of Krishna. tad vai dhanus ta isavah sa ratho hayaas te so ‘ham rathi nrpatayo yata aanamanti sarvam ksanena tad abhud asad isa-riktam bhasman hutam kuhaka-raaddham ivoptam usyaam “I have ... Way Out of Fatigue

Way Out of Fatigue (Compiled from notes on lectures of H. H. Mahavishnu Goswami) In the present civilization we find that the majority of the population are completely fatigued in their endeavour to improve the so called standard of life and are full of restlessness. Peace and refreshment are very rare to find and Srimad Bhagavatam in the verse 4.26.11, describes this situation and Srila Prabhupada gives a brilliant purport to this verse. tatah ksut-trt-parisraanto nivrtto grham eyivaan krta-snaanocitaahaarah samvivesa gata-klamah “After this, the King, very much fatigued, hungry and thirsty, returned to his royal palace. After returning, he took a bath and had an appropriate dinner. Then he took rest and thus became freed from all restlessness.” Srila Prabhupada writes in his purport: ‘A materialistic person works throughout the whole week very, very hard. He is always asking, “Where is money? Where is money?” Then, at the end of ... Read More »
