Remember Krishna without Deviation – 2

We are continuing with the transcription of the lecture given by our spiritual master H H Mahavishnu Goswami Maharaj on the B G Verse 8.14: ananya-cetaah satatam / yo maam smarati nityashah  tasyaaham sulabhah paartha / nitya-yuktasya yoginah  “For one who always remembers Me without deviation, I am easy to obtain, O son of Prtha, because of his constant engagement in devotional service.“ Ravana was a staunch Shiv Bhakta, but he was finished by Sri Ram. If he had been attached and strongly devoted to Sri Ram then he would have never been killed. He didn’t have unflinching faith on Sri Ram which lead to his destruction. We are not to deviate from our path of worshipping Krishna. We may come to temple sometimes and attend programs and go home. But as soon as you leave temple, you get entangled in illusory energy and forget Krishna totally. Unless we stop this ... Read More »

Remember Krishna without Deviation – 1

In Bhagavad-Gita verse 8.14 Lord Krishna says, ananya-cetaah satatam / yo maam smarati nityashah tasyaaham sulabhah paartha / nitya-yuktasya yoginah “For one who always remembers Me without deviation, I am easy to obtain, O son of Prtha, because of his constant engagement in devotional service.“ Srila Prabhupada in his purports says that the special qualification of the pure devotee is that he is always thinking of Krishna without deviation and without considering the time or place. There should be no impediments. He should be able to carry out his service anywhere and at any time. Some say that the devotee should remain in holy places like Vrindavan or some holy town where the Lord lived, but a pure devotee can live anywhere and create the atmosphere of Vrindavan by his devotional service. It was Sri Advaita who told Lord Caitanya, “Wherever You are, O Lord-there is Vrindavan.” I was listening to ... Read More »

Packaged Chanting

This is a wonderful shloka that the great devotee Arjuna addresses to the Lord to clear the doubt that we face on a day to day basis. cancalam hi manah krsna / pramaathi balavad drdham tasyaaham nigraham manye / vaayor iva su-dushkaram “For the mind is restless, turbulent, obstinate and very strong, O Krishna, and to subdue it, I think, is more difficult than controlling the wind.” Bhagavad Gita 6.34 We think that we are all very nice devotees, we are different from the materialistic people, we chant our regular rounds, attend programs, offer bhoga, we try to eat only food offered to Krishna, read Bhagavad Gita and Bhagavatam on a regular basis, try to sing and dance in front of the Deities and we all endeavor to do everything to please Guru and Krishna. But we need to closely introspect ourselves, “Are we really devotees in true sense”? None ... Read More »

Pass the Time in Lord’s Pastimes

Sri Koorathazhwar is an exalted acharya in the Sri Sampradaya and he is the disciple of Sri Ramanujacharya. He had twin sons and Sri Embar was the spiritual master of these two sons. Once when Sri Koorathazhwar was expounding on the purport of a Tamil Paasuram, he found that it incorporated the essence of the Ashtaakshara mantra or the eight lettered mantra, “Om Namo Naaarayanaaya”. As the mantra and its significance are to be learnt only from the spiritual master, Sri Koorathazhwar sent his two sons to Sri Embar for obtaining the instructions. He had just asked them to go and immediately realizing the impermanence of life, he called the sons back and gave the instruction himself, lest something should happen to them on the way to Sri Embar and deny them the Mantropadesham. One may think what could possibly happen to the children during the short journey involved in ... Read More »

Purifying Our Consciousness – 3

This is in conclusion of the previous postings transcribing the wonderful lecture given by our beloved Guru Maharaj in Singapore on 11.3.1992 on the following verse from Srimad Bhagavatam 4.7.9, sandheeyamaane shirasi / daksho rudraabhivikshitah sadyah supta ivottasthau / dadrshe caagrato mrdham “When the animal’s head was fixed on the body of King Daksha, Daksha was immediately brought to consciousness, and as he awakened from sleep, the King saw Lord Siva standing before him.” In the previous post we saw that Maharaj emphasized on purifying the consciousness and for this, the intellect or buddhi must be purified. Maharaj in this regard quoted the verse Srimad Bhagavad Gita 18.51 and explained the same. buddhyaa vishuddhayaa yukto / dhrtyaatmaanam niyamya ca shabdaadin vishayaams tyaktvaa / raaga-dveshau vyudasya ca “Being purified by his intelligence and controlling the mind with determination, giving up the objects of sense gratification, being freed from attachment and hatred… ...
