Srimad Bhagavatam is Transcendental
We were very fortunate to have the wonderful association of our beloved god brother HG Devakinandan prabhuji. He flooded the parched land of Abudhabi with nectar of Srimad Bhagavatam. Prabhuji is embodiment of obedience to Srila Gurudev and along with sincere study, he also practises Srimad Bhagavatam in daily life. We can learn from him as to how to sincerely serve the spiritual master. During this visit, the whole theme of his classes is on one pointed attention towards Bhagavatam. Prabhuji insisted that more than just academic reading, we need to put into practice in our day to day lives which alone can be of real value.
There is a wonderful statement by Srila Prabhupada on the nature of Srimad Bhagavatam which is worth meditating. “We should discuss Srimad-Bhagavatam daily as much as possible, and then everything will be clarified, for Bhagavatam is the essence of all VedicConnected to, or derived from, the Vedas. Specifically, the period when the four Vedas were compiled. literature, nigama-kalpa-taror galitam phalam [SB 1.1.3]. It was written by Vyasadeva (maha-muni-krte) when he was self-realized. Thus the more we read Srimad-Bhagavatam, the more its knowledge becomes clear. Each and every verse is transcendental.”
The glory of Srimad Bhagavatam is nicely described in 12.13.18

“Srimad Bhagavatam is the spotless PuranaLiterally "very old." The texts containing the many popular religious stories, sometimes called myths.. It is most dear to the VaishnavasThe worshippers of VishnuOne of the trimurtiThe three main deities, BrahmaThe creator (or, some say, secondary creator); one of the trimurti, three main deities in this world. (the creator), Vishnu (the sustainer), and Mahesh, or Shiva (the destroyer).; the sustainer. Often identified with the Supreme Deity.; generally accepted as the biggest of the four main denominations. because it describes the pure and supreme knowledge of the paramahamsas. This Bhagavatam reveals the means for becoming free from all material work, together with the processes of transcendental knowledge, renunciation and devotion. Anyone who seriously tries to understand Srimad Bhagavatam, who properly hears and chants it with devotion, becomes completely liberated.”
The following are some of the pearls of wisdom given by H G Devakinandan Prabhuji on how to study Srimad Bhagavatam
1) Each and every verse needs to be studied and meditated and contemplated the whole day. The contemplation is the remembrance of Krishna. The remembrance of Krishna will naturally will inspire the devotee with practical realization of those verses and if those practical realization are applied then it is the beginning part of purification of existence. In the end it becomes the perfection of existence.
2) Attachment to Srimad Bhagavatam should reflect in our behavior. Whatever we were yesterday should be forgotten. Today is a new day and we have to change our character and behavior as per Srimad Bhagavatam. Otherwise Srimad Bhagavatam study is only a ritual.
3) Whatever endeavour we may do, it does not matter what will be the result of those endeavour. The result is upto Krishna. In the course of these endeavours, we should not agitate other living entities. If we agitate others, then we are also not peaceful. So even if we succeed then the endeavour is not really a success. But on the other hand even if the endeavour is failure, but we have not hurt any living entities then it is complete success. The process of Krishna consciousness is based on the principle of loving dealings with all living entities and nothing more.
Krishna willing, we will transcribe the nectarean classes given by HG Devakinandan Prabhuji in the subsequent offerings.
Thank you very much.
Yours in service of Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudev,
Sajjanapriya Krishna Das,
